Le drapeau du 31ème Congrès International de Vexillologie
À l’occasion de la 10ème Journée mondiale de la vexillologie, le Vexiday, célébrée le 1er octobre 2025, la Société française de vexillologie (SFV) a eu le plaisir de dévoiler le drapeau du 31ème Congrès international de vexillologie, qui se tiendra à Paris du 6 au 10 juillet 2026.
Le projet retenu est l’œuvre de Thomas Constantine Diamantopoulos, âgé de 15 ans, originaire de l’État de Washington (États-Unis) et membre de la North American Vexillological Association (NAVA). Il a été sélectionné parmi près de soixante-dix propositions de vexillologues du monde entier.
Son drapeau s’appuie exclusivement sur les trois couleurs françaises. Il reprend donc le drapeau bicolore de Paris, enrichi d’éléments blancs :
• au centre, placé verticalement, un nœud d’écoute, symbole de la vexillologie et rappel de l’attache du pavillon à sa drisse ;
• de part et d’autre, disposées horizontalement, des vagues représentant la Seine, élément central dans la devise de Paris (« Fluctuat nec mergitur, Il est battu par les flots, mais ne sombre pas »), ainsi que le voyage accompli par les congressistes pour rejoindre la capitale française.
• Ces motifs blancs composent également une croix blanche, évocation à la fois des anciens drapeaux militaires français mais aussi à celui de la SFV.
Par sa sobriété et sa lisibilité, ce projet répond pleinement aux principes préconisés par la communauté vexillologique internationale pour la création de nouveaux drapeaux.
La SFV est heureuse de présenter ce drapeau du 31ème Congrès international de vexillologiele et adresse ses félicitations à son créateur pour la qualité et la pertinence de son travail.
The flag of the 31st International Congress of Vexillology
On the occasion of the 10th World Vexillology Day (Vexiday) celebrated on October 1st, 2025, the French Society of Vexillology (SFV) had the pleasure to unveil the flag of the 31st International Congress of Vexillology, which will be held in Paris from July 6 to 10, 2026.
The selected project is the work of Thomas Constantine Diamantopoulos, 15 years old, from the State of Washington (United States) and member of the North American Vexillological Association (NAVA). This flag proposal has been selected from nearly 70 proposals from vexillologists from around the World.
The flag is based exclusively on the three French national colors. It takes up the bicolor flag of Paris, enriched with white elements :
• In the center, placed vertically, a listening knot, symbol of vexillology and reminder of the attachment of the pavilion to its haiddle ;
• On both sides, arranged horizontally, waves representing the Seine, central element of the motto of Paris ("Fluctuat nec mergitur, Tossed by the waves, but does not sink"), as well as the journey made by the congress participants to reach the French capital.
• These white motifs also compose a white cross, an evocation of both the former French military flags and the SFV flag.
By its sobriety and readability, this flag fully meets the principles recommended by the international vexillological community for the creation of new flags.
